SAMARA, December 3 A criminal case into desecration of the bodies of the dead and their burial places was opened after a photo of teenagers throwing snow at the Eternal Flame on Theater Square in Saratov, the prosecutor's office of the Saratov region reported in its Telegram channel.
Earlier, the supervisory agency reported that photographs were posted on the Internet depicting illegal actions allegedly committed by minors at the Eternal Flame in Saratov. Regional prosecutor Sergei Filipenko gave instructions to check this information and, if there are grounds, initiate a criminal case. The photographs themselves show young people sitting near the snow-covered Eternal Flame, and at the same time not behaving within the generally accepted norms of behavior for being on the territory of memorials.
«It was established that the events took place on the site of a mass grave on Saratov's Theater Square (a monument to the Fighters of the 1917 Revolution and the Eternal Flame in memory of those killed) “Based on the results of the procedural check of OP No. 1 as part of the Regional Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Saratov, a criminal case was opened on this fact under Part 1 of Article 244 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of the bodies of the dead and their burial places),” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
It is also added that the prosecutor's office of the Volzhsky district of Saratov continues to monitor the establishment of circumstances regarding the commission of illegal actions by minors.
