Jacqueline «Jackie» Elmquist disappeared overnight on Nov. 30, was found Friday in a trash compactor at a Manhattan building.
A 24-year-old woman who went missing before her body was found in a luxury apartment building in Manhattan. New York police have concluded that the trash compactor died after falling into a garbage chute.
The police decision comes after mystery surrounded the disappearance of Jacqueline «Jackie» Elmquist, who disappeared after meeting with colleagues at a nearby restaurant on the night of November 30. She was found on Friday in a trash compactor in the basement of the +Art apartment building in the Chelsea area.
Social media posts and flyers about the missing woman, who was from Minnesota and worked for an executive search firm, said she was at the nearby Catch Steakhouse before 11:30 p.m. and was bundled into a yellow cab by co-workers. But she did not return home to Brooklyn or show up for work the next day.
Surveillance video obtained by NBC New York shows the woman walking unsteadily along the sidewalk. on West 28th Street about a quarter of an hour later. The location of Elmquist's phone apparently showed she was only four blocks from the apartment building when her phone broke.
NYPD officers said she was «without consciousness and did not react” in the compactor, as well as in the emergency services. she was later pronounced dead at the scene. A preliminary investigation determined that her injuries were consistent with falling into a garbage chute.

The Medical Examiner's Office is conducting an investigation to determine how Elmquist died. The investigation continued on Monday.
