It is expected that the new product from the Japanese brand will be based on the Chill-Out concept, which was presented back in 2021. The debut of the next Leaf is scheduled for the end of 2024.
The Nissan Leaf electric car appeared back in 2010, and in 2017 this hatchback changed generation; this five-door entered the world market a year later. Europe remains one of the main regions for Leaf, despite a noticeable decline in performance. According to Jato Dynamics, in the first ten months of this year, old-world Nissan dealers sold 14,390 units, which is a third (33%) less than in January-October 2022.

The decline in demand can easily be explained both by the presence of more modern competitors on the market, and by the fact that the Nissan Leaf is already outdated. The company also understands this, however, as it turned out, they do not intend to abandon their model (previously, information appeared in the media that the current second generation would be the last for the model). According to Automotive News Europe, Nissan is currently developing the third generation Leaf.
It is expected that during the generation change the model will undergo major changes. Probably, the place of the hatchback will be taken by a compact crossover with a coupe-like body. The agency noted that the new product could be based on the Nissan Chill-Out concept, which the Japanese company showed back in 2021, when it presented its development strategy until 2030 (this plan was revised this year). In addition, the design of the new Leaf will feature features of the Ariya electric crossover.

The Nissan Chill-Out concept received a plug on the front, which is visually integral with the head optics, and in the center there is a glowing brand logo. The rear of the show car is designed in a similar way — in the form of a large digital panel. It has lights on the sides, and the brand name “red” in the center. In the cabin you can see backlit seats, a large horizontally elongated display on the front panel and a steering wheel in place of the steering wheel.
Nissan Chill-Out Concept
It is reported that the third generation Nissan Leaf will be based on the CMF-EV platform, on which the current Ariya crossover, Renault Megane E-Tech and the Chill-Out concept are based. The new product will probably also receive a “green” e-4orce power plant. The company will release technical details later. It is known that the production of the electric cross-coupe will be established at the plant in Sunderland (UK), where the Ariya is currently being produced. Previously, it was assumed that up to 100 thousand new SUVs would roll off the assembly line annually.
Nissan The new generation Leaf will receive modern traction batteries, the production of which will be established by the Chinese battery company Envision at a plant currently being built next to the British Nissan plant. It is reported that these batteries have an energy density increased by 30% compared to the batteries of the current model: this will significantly increase the range of the electric vehicle.
Note that at the recent Japan Mobility exhibition, which was held in Tokyo, Nissan presented several concepts. Thus, the general future design direction was demonstrated by the Nissan Hyper Urban, the Hyper Adventure show car developed the ideas, a look into the future of the Hyper Tourer minivans, the Hyper Force acted as a prototype of the electric GT-R, and the Hyper Punk concept can be considered a harbinger of the future “green” Juke.
