Andre Braugher, an Emmy Award-winning actor best known for his roles in “Homicide: Life on the Street” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” died Monday at age 61.
< p>Brower's publicist Jennifer Allen told The Associated Press that the actor died after a short illness.
The Chicago-born actor had his breakout role in the 1989 film «Fame,» in which he starred opposite Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington, who won an Oscar for the film about an all-black army regiment during the Civil War.

Brougher won the award for second leading actor in the 2006 limited series Thief on FX. In total, he was nominated for 11 Emmy awards.
Years later, he played a completely different cop on a very different show, switching to comedy as Captain Ray Holt in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, starring Andy Samberg. The show ran for eight seasons from 2013 to 2021 on Fox and NBC.
Although he dove into comedy with the TNT drama Men of a Certain Age, Brooklyn Nine-Nine still represented a major shift in the career of Brauer, known for his roles in dark and heavy dramas.

“I just felt like this was an opportunity to do something very different from the rest of my career,” Braugher told the AP.
“I love it because it just opens my mind and makes me think differently. So I think I've become much more flexible as an actor and more open to an incredible number of possibilities of how to play a scene.»
During his performance, he was nominated for an Emmy Award four times.
His other film credits included Primal Fear and Get on the Bus, and his other television credits included Breaking In, Gideon's Crossing and Gideon's Crossing. Good fight.”
He also acted frequently on stage, often performing Shakespeare. He won an Obie Award for his starring role in Henry V at the New York Shakespeare Festival, where he also appeared in Measure for Measure, Twelfth Night and As You Like It.
< p>Brower was married for more than 30 years to his “The Killing” co-star Amy Brabson. He is also survived by sons Michael, Isaiah and John Wesley, his brother Charles Jennings and his mother Sally Braugher.
Stars pay tribute
Terry Crews, who played Lt. Terry Jeffords on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, was among Hollywood stars remember Braugher for his “irreplaceable talent.”
“I am honored to have known you, laughed with you, worked with you, and shared eight glorious years watching your irreplaceable talent,” Crews wrote on Instagram.
«It hurts. You left us too soon. You taught me so much. I will be forever grateful for the experience of knowing you. Thank you for your wisdom, your advice, your kindness and your friendship. You showed me what a life well lived looks like.»
Meanwhile, actor Mark Evan Jackson, who played on-screen husband Braugher in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, shared a photo of the couple cuddling on set while wearing their wedding dresses rings.

David Simon, who wrote the book Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets that inspired the series, said Braugher's death came «too soon.»
“I've worked with a lot of great actors. I will never work with anyone better,” he tweeted.
“Shocked and thinking of Ami and his sons and so many memories of this good man that are now a blessing.” .
