NIZHNY NOVGOROD, December 12The hype surrounding the series “The Boy’s Word” could lead to a “viral” repetition of the situation with some teenagers being bullied by others, the head of the “Safe Internet League” Ekaterina Mizulina told reporters.
«The topic is very much inflated and exaggerated, including by the media. There is too much talk, and it is this viral component that creates certain problems, dangers and opportunities for a conditional repetition of the situation with (the movement) «Ryodan», — said Mizulina
When asked whether she had watched «The Boy's Word», Mizulina stated that she had seen the series, but she was “an adult”, and The problem is that the series is watched by children.
During a conversation with students of Nizhny Novgorod universities, she noted that “the series is labeled 18+, but nevertheless, all the fifth- to eighth-graders watched it for some reason.” This, in her opinion, is facilitated by easy access to online cinemas and parents who do not monitor what their children watch.
«Another question: is such aggressive viral PR for such topics and such series necessary for a youth audience? Or is it still necessary to make films about kinder moments and make them as popular as this particular series?» — said Mizulina.
She expressed the hope «that this viral theme of the series will end by the end of December — beginning of January, and will be replaced by some new film.»
«I hope that it won’t come to the situation in February of this year, when the whole country was running around shopping centers and looking for guys in sweatshirts with spiders… But for now there are some suspicions that the topic could become so viral and turn into such a non-issue a very positive children’s game,” the head of the “Safe Internet League” emphasized.
She also noted that the problem of bullying, aggression, and violence among teenagers is not tied to any particular film or any particular music, but has deeper roots and a very wide scope.
«And here, any drop can become a starting point — be it this series or some other topic… Here we need to fight the phenomenon itself, the very problem of such a large amount of violence among young people as such. In my opinion, more deeply and more systematically,” Mizulina summed up.
Premiere episodes of the series «The Boy's Word. Blood on the Asphalt», in which Ruzil Minekaev, Ivan Yankovsky, Sergei Burunov and Zhora Kryzhovnikov starred, released in online cinemas Wink and Start on November 9. The series tells the story of youth criminal groups in Kazan against the backdrop of perestroika. The series caused significant public outcry due to scenes of cruelty and, according to some estimates, the glorification of crime.
The Chairman of the State Duma Committee for Family Protection, Nina Ostanina, contacted the Investigative Committee and Roskomnadzor of the Russian Federation to check the series “The Boy’s Word” for promoting a dangerous lifestyle for teenagers. Roskomnadzor did not identify any violations of Russian legislation in the series.
The informal youth group «Ryodan» gained fame after the publication of videos on Telegram channels and social networks showing fights between members of this association and other youth groups.
Young people who consider themselves to be part of the movement imitate the group “Ryodan” (full name “Geiei Ryodan”) from the cult Japanese comic strip Hunter x Hunter in their name, clothes and symbols. The symbol of the group is a spider; each member of the group has its own number.
