MOSCOW, December 13. Scientists at the St. Petersburg State Maritime Technical University (SPbSMTU) are developing a universal software and hardware educational and research system (an interdisciplinary laboratory platform) with replaceable modules of analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters that support signal generation and reading modes. The development of a device intended for educational design and creation of prototypes of systems in various fields was reported by the press service of the university.
As one of the system developers, a teacher at the Department of Design and Production Technology of Marine Underwater Vehicles and Robots at St. Petersburg State Medical University Alexander Sergeev explained, modern approaches to organizing practical and laboratory work in technical disciplines imply that students will be given the opportunity to do something independently, with their own hands: set up equipment, carry out measurements, derive mathematical dependencies, and so on.
Such problems can be solved by connecting a device with replaceable modules to a personal computer and opening access to measurements and signal generation in its own software.

The scheme of the gadget, aimed at developing the knowledge, skills and abilities of schoolchildren, university students and secondary vocational education institutions, as well as engineers and researchers in electrical engineering, electronics, circuit design, mechatronics, physics, chemistry and other technical sciences, assumes the presence of a universal connector for connecting replaceable modules (boards) with semantic and hardware content in accordance with academic disciplines that involve laboratory work. The station is connected to a personal computer via a USB interface.
St. Petersburg State Medical University believes that the “individual laboratory” being developed will have an advantage over existing foreign analogues due to its focus on specialized disciplines of Russian universities and institutions of secondary specialized education. Such a system will simplify the process of updating laboratory facilities in educational institutions of different levels and will increase the level of unification.
The university developed the basic requirements for the hardware base and approaches to organizing the operation of a platform with replaceable modules. A prototype of the system and software is currently being developed, which will be tested and approved in various educational institutions.
At this stage, the device developers decided to start from one version of the replaceable module and devote the main work to the hardware of the universal platform. The software and hardware part of the platform supporting the USB interface is being developed. It is also necessary to organize and optimize the joint operation of the module, platform and computer with software developed at St. Petersburg State Medical University.
In the future, it is planned to establish the university’s own production of cases, organize the assembly and soldering of components of replaceable modules.

The Maritime University expects that the main consumers of the universal interdisciplinary laboratory platform will be educational organizations.
St. Petersburg State Medical University reported that work on creating an interdisciplinary laboratory platform is being implemented within the framework of the state support and development program for universities, aimed at increasing Russia’s competitiveness in the field of education, science and technology “Priority 2030” of the national project “Science and Universities”.
