It is planned that mass production of electric cars will begin next spring, at which time Largus with internal combustion engines will return to the assembly line.
The Lada e-Largus model, that is, the battery version of Largus, was announced by AVTOVAZ in 2022: the “electric train” will be registered at the Lada-Izhevsk plant, because Vesta production was moved from the Izhevsk site to the head plant in Tolyatti. A full-fledged working prototype was presented at the end of last year, and now the start of production in Izhevsk of a pilot batch of electric Lada Largus has been announced. The company's press service also reported that the plant hosted a working visit from AVTOVAZ President Maxim Sokolov and Head of the Udmurt Republic Alexander Brechalov.
According to the plan, e-Largus will be a separate family — it will include both passenger and commercial station wagons, while in the second case the electric car will receive several modifications with different carrying capacity and batteries. Lada e-Largus will be offered with a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor: today's release states that the rated power is 50 kW, short-term peak power is 120 kW.
The lithium-ion battery is divided into two modules: one located in the engine compartment, the second under the floor of the body, in the place where the gas tank used to be. That is, the useful volume of the interior and trunk is preserved. The battery capacity and range are not specified in the latest press release (for the test prototype, a range of “at least 400 km with one driver and 100 kg of payload” was declared, according to the NEDC cycle). It is reported that the maximum speed of the e-Largus will be 145 km/h (electronically limited), and the electric car can reach the first “hundred” in less than 10 seconds.
“The development of the electric power plant for both versions was carried out by the Autonomous Energy Systems company SAE (part of the Itelma Group of Companies) in close cooperation with AVTOVAZ engineers. The batteries from the SAE are designed and manufactured in Russia, the control and temperature control system is also Russian. The company plans to localize the last imported element – the battery cell – in the next 2 years,” noted the AVTOVAZ press service. In addition, according to the president of AVTOVAZ, the level of localization of the electric Largus exceeds 50%.
The start of mass production of the Lada e-Largus is scheduled for May 2024, and then the production of gasoline Largus will resume, and the car The Lada-Izhevsk plant will also make the internal combustion engine. The company officially announced the transfer of production of the entire Lada Largus family in the summer of this year: as it was reported then, this decision is related to plans to load Line No. 1 in Tolyatti. Thus, the parent plant intends to increase the production of Lada Vesta; in addition, the Lada Aura sedan (an extended Vesta) and the new Lada crossover (on the Vesta platform) should be put on the conveyor.
