MOSCOW, December 15 Creating a situation of success in the process of training and physical education contributes to the development of motivation to achieve success, NSPU scientists reported. They taught self-regulation techniques to young sambo wrestlers and noticed a big difference in behavior – the young men became less susceptible to stress and more motivated to achieve high results. The details were announced in the press service of the university.
An important point in raising teenagers is to encourage them to independently set goals for the effective development of sports skills. Researchers from the Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University (NSPU) suggested that there is a relationship between motivation for sports activity and the emotional complex of adolescents.

"Adolescents need to develop an understanding that success or failure is the result of the efforts made to achieve a result . Emotions have a significant impact on the formation of motivation for success,” said a graduate of the master’s program in “Pedagogical Education” NSPU Anastasia Litskevich.
The NSPU was able to confirm that it is possible to correct the motivational and emotional characteristics of athletes. According to them, it is the athlete’s motivation that provides a certain level of activation of physical and mental functions. Regulating such criteria is extremely important, especially in connection with hard contact with an opponent.
The NSPU study was conducted on the basis of the Siberian Sambo Academy in Novosibirsk among 12-13 year old sambo wrestlers with 1st youth and 3rd sports categories. The young men were asked to use psychoregulation techniques – positive influence using words, mental images, ideas and imagination.
The researchers measured personal and situational anxiety before introducing the technique. At the beginning of the experiment, the following results were obtained: 8 out of 12 sambo wrestlers showed a high level of personal anxiety. High results in situational anxiety were observed in 6 sambo wrestlers.
In the process of learning psychoregulation techniques, scientists revealed a strong decrease in the level of anxiety, both personal and situational. Such results minimized the occurrence of negative pre-start states in the competitive activity of sambo wrestlers. The teenagers gained confidence in their abilities and achieved great success during training.
“An important condition for the formation of motivation is leading students to independently set and accept tasks. The effectiveness of the activity will depend on whether each teenager understands the goal set for him and whether he is aware of the need to achieve it in general. It is worth noting that the necessary a condition for the development of motivation for sports activities is taking into account the personal characteristics of the child, which are improved in the process of sports activities of a certain direction,” said Marina Odintsova, associate professor of the department of theoretical foundations of physical culture of the NSPU.
Scientists also emphasized that sambo wrestlers have become more resistant to negative influences , as evidenced by a reduced level of anxiety. With such indicators, it is easier for an athlete to master new skills, his success becomes more stable.
