The President of Lazio spoke about the court's decision on the Super League project

MOSCOW, December 23 President of the Italian Lazio Claudio Lotito stated that it welcomes the decision of the European Court of Justice on the Super League project, since the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) cannot be both a regulator and a seller.
On Thursday, the European Court declared illegal the actions of the International Football Federation (FIFA) and UEFA to ban the creation of the Super League. Thus, inter-club competitions such as the Super League can officially be created under European law. Following the verdict, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) said it rejected the European Super League project as it would not benefit Italian football.
“At the end of the day, the only thing that changes is where the money might end up. But I believe it can free up resources for clubs. Are you surprised by the court's verdict on UEFA? Have you ever seen an energy regulator that also buys or sells gas? No. You cannot be both a regulator and a seller, you need to be one or the other. Theoretically, this could free up a lot of resources for clubs. As things stand, UEFA keeps some of the money for itself, spends some of it, and distributes some among the clubs “, the newspaper Il Foglio quotes Lotito.
Previously, the president of the Italian club Napoli, Aurelio De Laurentiis, announced support for the Super League project.

In April 2021, 12 European clubs announced the creation of a new tournament – the Super League. A few days later, all English clubs announced their withdrawal from the project, followed by Inter Milan and Atlético Madrid. FIFA, UEFA, national associations, representatives of the football community and fans harshly criticized the idea of a new tournament. The Italian Juventus, the Spanish Real Madrid and Barcelona remained committed to the idea of the Super League, against whom UEFA opened a disciplinary case for possible violation of the legal framework of the organization in connection with the Super League project. Later, Juventus, under pressure from sanctions, launched the procedure for withdrawing from the Super League project.
