MOSCOW, October 14, Anastasia Silkina. Legendary couturier Valentin Yudashkin would have turned 60 on October 14. On Memorial Day, his brand is holding its first show as part of Dubai Fashion Week. His daughter Galina Yudashkina spoke in an interview about what will happen to the master’s legacy.
About the arrival of the new collection at the Fashion House
— Galina, what have you prepared for the first show in Dubai?
— We are presenting a haute couture collection. Some of the things were created under my dad according to his sketches, but most are new developments.

— Valentin Abramovich prepared you for the role of head of the Fashion House?< /strong>
— No. Dad always thought that I would have time for this. And he wanted me to work in different places, try different professions — close ones, of course. And I came to the Fashion House after college as a photographer, helping with advertising campaigns and publishing.
— Did you receive any creative or management advice from your father?< br /> — Such advice accumulated gradually, but, of course, mostly began to come when he became seriously ill — who else but me could continue his work. And I delved more actively into the brand, in different directions.
— Valentin Yudashkin’s work is connected primarily with Russian history and art. Will this change with your arrival as creative director?
— In fact, at some point he moved away from this format. We all remember the Faberge collection, but that was 35 years ago. Of course, the Russian spirit was present in the collections, but notes of France were also felt — dad loved this country very much, his international career started there. In general, I will maintain the style of the Fashion House.
— What philosophy do you adhere to in your work?
— Since dad loved women very much, he always preferred the classic style. Femininity and elegance are the DNA of the brand. Street style is not about us, we have never gone into it. We valued women, the beauty of their figure and femininity.

About working abroad< /h3>— Is membership in the French Federation of Haute Couture, Prêt-à-Porter and Fashion Designers still in place?
— Yes, of course, no one will take this away. But for the time being we are not showing at Paris Fashion Week — for obvious reasons we have been asked not to exhibit for now. But we were not very upset, because a new market had opened up for us — the United Arab Emirates.
We wanted to go there for a long time, but there was no one there who could closely work on the brand. Since my family and I have now moved to Dubai, we are ready to work and open new horizons. We have a large showroom and office here.
— How are things going with other representative offices abroad?
— There is an office in Paris, a small representative office in Hong Kong. But most of the operations are now in the Dubai market.
— And in Russia?
— There we left wedding and cocktail fashion, the ready-to-wear direction — in general, everyday clothes.
About clients and their fatigue from the mass market
— How in demand is high fashion today?
— It’s good that fashion is cyclical. Now couture is coming back. Everyone is tired of street style and the mass market, of which there are too many. People want to stand out. We adhere to the fact that if a woman buys our dress, she will not meet another in the same one.
— Who are the brand’s clients?
— Once upon a time, these were our pop stars, but you need to follow trends and keep up with the times. Now we dress more bloggers and girl influencers.

— Personally, do you have some kind of muse whom you Can you imagine when you work on a collection?
— There is no specific person, but I would like our audience to change. If previously these were women from 40 to 60 years old, now we want to attract more young girls so that they grow up with our brand.
— What areas are in demand, besides clothing?
— We brought our architectural bureau to Dubai and signed a contract with a local company to collaborate on interior design.
— Are there any plans for expansion?
— We are looking for partners who would help develop a line of decorative cosmetics. The previous launch coincided with Covid, and, unfortunately, nothing worked out then.
— Will the tradition of showings on International Women’s Day, March 8, be maintained?
— Yes, there will be a big show in memory of dad.
