In the USA, an experimental supersonic aircraft X-59 was presented at the Lockheed Martin plant in California. The ceremony was broadcast live on the NASA website.
According to the developers, the presented X-59 is not a prototype, but an experimental aircraft, the tests of which will allow us to collect information for the development of the next generations of supersonic passenger airliners. The aircraft, with a wingspan of about 9 meters, is 30 meters long and can accelerate to 1,488 km/h, which is faster than the speed of sound.
The main distinguishing feature of the quiet supersonic aircraft developed under the Quest program is the absence of a characteristic pop when reaching the speed of sound. Design features help to avoid it.
Plans for the near future include starting engines in autonomous mode, testing systems and test taxiing. The first test flight at speeds below the speed of sound is scheduled for late spring or early summer. Only after the completion of test tests will the date of the first supersonic flight be scheduled.
