Matvienko noted Solomin’s contribution to the development of theatrical art

MOSCOW, January 11People's Artist of the USSR, artistic director of the Maly Theater Yuri Solomin was a wise and wonderful person, he made an invaluable contribution to the development of theatrical and cinematic art, said Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko.
“With deep regret, I learned about the death of People's Artist of the USSR Yuri Methodievich Solomin. A wise, wonderful person, a talented actor and director, belonging to the legendary generation of ascetics, whose creative path is the standard of devotion to national culture, has passed away,” the telegram says Matvienko to the Maly Theater.

She noted that on stage and on screen Solomin created dozens of expressive images that captivated audiences with his amazing charm, inner dignity and depth of character.

“He generously shared not only his skill, but also the wealth of his soul, aesthetic and moral guidelines. Yuri Methodievich made an invaluable contribution to the development of theatrical and cinematic art, left us a wonderful creative legacy, and managed to preserve the best traditions of the State Academic Maly Theater of Russia. It’s hard to believe, that he is no longer with us. The bright memory of Yuri Methodievich will forever remain in the hearts of everyone who knew and appreciated him,” the Chairman of the Federation Council emphasized.
Solomin was discharged from the hospital on January 9. He was hospitalized with a stroke on November 6th. Theater director Tamara Mikhailova reported on November 21 that he was transferred from intensive care to a regular ward in the neurology department. He spent the entire New Year holidays in the hospital.
Yuri Solomin was born on June 18, 1935 in Chita. Since 1961, he taught at the Shchepkin Higher Theater School and was a professor in the acting department. As a director, Solomin worked at the Maly Theater and on television. He played in almost 60 films and TV series.
