MOSCOW, January 15 People's Artist of the USSR, artistic director of the Maly Theater Yuri Solomin was buried at the Troekurovsky cemetery in Moscow, the correspondent reported.
The farewell ceremony for the artist took place on the historical stage of the Maly Theater.
At the funeral, a military orchestra performed the Russian anthem and “The Ballad of a Soldier.” Also during the burial, military honors were given with three gun salvos.
The artist was buried next to his wife Olga Solomina.
Wreaths for the funeral of the artistic director of the Maly Theater were sent by President Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, the Ministry of Culture, Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus' Kirill, singer Alla Pugacheva, the O. P. Tabakov Theater, the M. N. Ermolova Theater, the Sovremennik Theater, Mossovet Theater, Mosfilm Cinema Concern and many others.
Solomin died at the age of 88 on January 11, having been discharged from the hospital two days earlier after suffering a stroke.
On Thursday, President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to Solomin's family and friends. He called the artist’s death an irreparable loss for national culture and for all of Russia. The head of state noted that Solomin was the keeper of the legendary traditions of the Russian classical theater, and his selfless service to his chosen cause, inner dignity, and decency earned the People's Artist of the USSR the highest recognition and truly popular love.
Condolences were also expressed by the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, the Mayor of Moscow Sergei Sobyanin, the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Tatyana Golikova, the Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova, the Mossovet Theater, Sovremennik, Lenkom, the Lenfilm film studio and others.
