In January 2024, two cases of fire from Chinese electric blankets occurred in Moscow and the region. Now both are being investigated.

The first incident happened in a two-story private house in Serpukhov. Two elderly women left the electric blanket on overnight for extra warmth. Pensioners woke up to the strong smell of smoke. The source of the fire was a Chinese product. The women managed to get out of the house, but at the last moment one of them decided to take warm clothes from the burning object. The pensioner died.

The second incident occurred on January 22 on Pravda Street. The woman bought an electric blanket because it was severely cold outside. She covered herself with it and went to bed. However, by morning a short circuit occurred and the fire spread to an area of ​​one square meter. A neighbor smelled the burning smell and called the rescuers. But the pensioner could not be saved. The preliminary cause of death is carbon monoxide poisoning.

The investigation is conducting an investigation into two facts of the incident. Law enforcement agencies are trying to establish the likelihood of an accident, as well as the safety of heated blankets.
