MOSCOW, January 23Jewish employees from the British broadcasting corporation BBC have filed formal complaints in connection with the manifestation of anti-Semitism in the corporation, the Telegraph reports.
““Jewish BBC employees have filed formal complaints in connection with anti-Semitism and the way (corporate sports journalist — ed.) Gary Lineker used social networks,” the newspaper writes, citing sources.
According to the Telegraph, at least 22 employees say their concerns about anti-Semitism at the corporation have been met with «indifference or shrugging from management.» In addition, another source notes that «a lot of Jews believe that the BBC is an anti-Semitic organization, and a lot of Jewish staff are unhappy.»
It is clarified that the indignation of employees is partly due to the actions of ex-England football team striker Gary Lineker, who currently works as a presenter of a football program on the BBC channel.
The Telegraph newspaper previously wrote that Lineker posted a post on the social network X of the pro-Palestinian movement calling for Israel to be removed from all sports tournaments until the end of hostilities. He later deleted the post, claiming that he meant to share the post rather than call for a ban.
The BBC previously faced a barrage of criticism amid accusations of bias in its coverage of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The company was criticized by the public for refusing to call members of the Palestinian Hamas movement terrorists. Among others, British Defense Minister Grant Shapps also condemned the company, calling the company’s position a situation “on the verge of disgrace.”
