Just two weeks ago, Toyota presented a radically updated all-wheel drive hot hatch GR Yaris, and today on the day of the start of the new World Championship season Special versions of the Ogier Edition and Rovanperä Edition debuted at the rally, named after the drivers of the Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT team — Sebastien Ogier and Kalle Rovanperä. The racers were directly involved in setting up personalized special versions that will be released to the market in limited editions.
23-year-old Finn Kalle Rovanpera is a two-time and current world rally champion, and the most experienced 40-year-old Frenchman Sebastien Ogier has won this honorary title eight times, two of them for the Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT team. It is clear that special versions of the Toyota GR Yaris from such eminent racers will be sold like hot cakes, especially since they differ from the standard hot hatch not only in “cosmetics”, but also in the original settings: factory driving modes Gravel (gravel) and Track (track) in they are replaced by modes unique to each version.

The new modes for the GR Yaris Ogier Edition are called Morizo and Seb. Morizo is the racing name of Akio Toyoda, the chairman of Toyota, and Seb is Sebastien Ogier. Morizo mode was composed personally by Akio Toyoda, it is focused on the track and maximum wheel grip. In Seb mode, the main thrust is supplied to the rear wheels, which allows you to throw the rear axle when passing sharp turns like “mother-in-law’s tongue” — there are a lot of such turns at the Monte Carlo Rally, which traditionally opens the season.

Other distinctive features of the Ogier Edition are the matte finish Matt Stealth Gray body color, high two-story carbon fiber spoiler at the rear, blue brake calipers, special instrument panel graphics, commemorative stickers and plaques on the body and interior.

The unique driving modes in the GR Yaris Rovanperä Edition are called Donut and Kalle. Donut translated from English means “doughnut”; it allows you to drift in a circle with minimal effort on the part of the pilot — Kalle Rovanpera is generally a great master of drifting and, of course, he could not help but equip the author’s version of the GR Yaris with the appropriate mode. In turn, the Kalle mode is similar to the Seb mode from a teammate, but here the rear Torsen self-block is supplemented with CV joints, which allows you to aggressively and at the same time take sharp turns with extreme precision.

The Rovanperä Edition also has its own a unique rear spoiler with an adjustable upper section and body paint from helmet designer Rovanpera. Of course, this version also has commemorative stickers and plaques.
The technical description of the updated GR Yaris can be found in our separate note; we will not give it here. We only note that special versions are available only in combination with a 6-speed manual transmission, while the “on duty” updated GR Yaris is also available with an 8-speed hydromechanical automatic transmission.
At the moment, the Ogier Edition and Rovanperä Edition are announced only for the Japanese market, each will be released in an edition of 100 copies, the right to purchase will be drawn in a lottery, prices have not yet been announced.< br />
