The enterprises that have changed owners in St. Petersburg will be given a new name, what it will be will be announced by the Art-Finance company later.
The St. Petersburg plant Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus (HMMR) previously launched the production of Hyundai Solaris and Creta, Kia Rio and Rio X. The list of local assets of the Korean company also included a motor plant and a site in Shushary, previously owned by the American concern GM : Hyundai planned to expand production in the Russian Federation. However, in the spring of the year before last, the management of the Korean company sent the enterprise into idle time, from which it never fully emerged.

It has long been known that Hyundai Motor is thinking about selling Russian assets; rumors were confirmed in September 2023 by the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov. And the press service of the Korean company published an official statement about the upcoming deal in December. At the same time, the buyer was named – Art-Finance LLC, the parent company of AGR Automotive Group (“AGR”). By the way, earlier she bought a former Volkswagen enterprise located in Kaluga.
Now the AGR press service has announced the completion of the transaction for the purchase of 100% shares in the authorized capital of Hyundai Motor LLC Manufacturing Rus. It is reported that the deal was approved by a subcommittee of the Government Commission for Control of Foreign Investments in the Russian Federation and the Federal Antimonopoly Service.
Now Art-Finance has become the owner of HMMR’s assets: as noted in the release, they include two production sites located in St. Petersburg: we are talking about a plant in the Kamenka industrial zone (probably this also includes an engine production site), and also an enterprise in the industrial zone of Shushary.
In the near future, the new owner will rename the enterprise Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus, although exactly what name this production site will receive will become known later. The company promised to disclose the new name after its registration is completed.
At the beginning of this month it became known that the St. Petersburg automobile plant has resumed work: for now, personnel training and equipment maintenance are being carried out at the production site. According to the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, the restart of the conveyor will take place before the middle of this year. It is still unknown who will play the role of “industrial partners” of the new owner of the St. Petersburg sites.
The conditions under which Hyundai Motor sold its local assets to the Russian company were not officially disclosed. It was previously reported that it includes a buyback option within two years (a similar decision was made by other foreign manufacturers — Renault, Nissan, Mazda). It is assumed that the transaction amount was 10 thousand rubles (at the current exchange rate, equivalent to approximately 148.5 thousand Korean won or 111 US dollars).
