MOSCOW, January 28 A monument to People's Artist of the USSR Vasily Lanovoy was unveiled at the Novodevichy cemetery in Moscow, the correspondent reports.
Lanovoy died on January 28, 2021 at the age of 88.
The monument is made of granite slab with an Orthodox cross carved in the center. It lists the names of films and performances in which Lanovoi played. Among the films are «Officers», «Scarlet Sails», «War and Peace», «Anna Karenina», and among theatrical productions — «Dedication to Eve», «Princess Turandot», «Little Tragedies», «Antony and Cleopatra».< br />
In front of the granite slab there is a bust of the artist. At the foot of the monument there are flowers from relatives and admirers of Lanovoy’s work.
People's Artists of the RSFSR Vladimir Menshov and Gleb Panfilov, as well as People's Artist of the USSR Inna Churikova, are buried not far from Lanovoy.
Lanovoi was born on January 16, 1934. He served at the Vakhtangov Theater for 63 years, playing in productions until his last days. He has more than 50 roles to his credit, including the role of Fabiano in “Mary Stuart”, Caesar in “Antony and Cleopatra”, Victor in “The Irkutsk Story”, and the Poet in “The Pier”. He is remembered for his roles in the films “Pavel Korchagin”, “Scarlet Sails”, “Anna Karenina”, “Officers” and others.
The artist took part in meetings and concerts in hot spots, in particular in Tskhinvali and Donbass. Lanovoy was the chairman of the interregional public fund «Army and Culture», a member of the Public Council under the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, one of the leaders of the «Immortal Regiment» movement and served as the head of the international film festival for children «Artek».
