ROSTOV-ON-DON, January 31 A Red Book white-tailed eagle, which was rescued in the Astrakhan region, was wounded, presumably from an air gun, materials sent to the police, reports the regional department of Rosprirodnadzor.
Previously, the department reported that a wild bird wounded in the Astrakhan region was taken for a veterinary examination.
«»According to the results of the examination, it was established that the bird had a traumatic fracture of the humerus of the right wing due to a bullet wound,» the report says.
It is noted that, according to the information of the crew of the ship «Neva», which discovered the predator, «shots were fired at the bird from an air gun by an unknown person from a passing ship.»
«»The materials were sent to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Astrakhan region for consideration and taking measures under articles 245 (cruelty to animals), 258.1 (illegal extraction and trafficking of especially valuable wild animals and aquatic biological resources belonging to species listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation or protected by international treaties of the Russian Federation),” the message said.
After the operation, the eagle was transferred for observation to the Baba Frosya Zoo.
The white-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) is a large bird of prey of the hawk family, whose wingspan reaches 2-2.3 meters, and its weight can reach up to 7 kilograms. The Russian Bird Conservation Union declared the white-tailed eagle, listed in the International Red Book, as the bird of 2013.
