England lead the five-Test series against India 1-0, continuing their fine form under Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum. They have won 14 of 19 Tests since the duo took over in June 2022.
Led by Ollie Pope's stunning 196 and a sensational seven-wicket haul from debutant Tom Hartley, England produced one of their greatest overseas tournaments. victory in Hyderabad, turning a 190-run first-innings deficit into a 28-run win.
There is speculation that India could prepare an extremely spin-friendly track for the second Test, which begins this week. However, the hosts will be without Ravindra Jadeja, one of their best spinners, due to the injury he sustained in Hyderabad. India will also be without K.L. Rahul for Vizag, and it is already without Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and Mohammed Shami.
Meanwhile, England may have to find a replacement for Jack Leach, who suffered a blow to his knee in the first Test. His condition will be assessed later this week. Shoaib Bashir, the opening spinner who had visa issues and was therefore unable to play last week, arrived in India midway through the first Test.
