A mother whose teenage son opened fire at a Michigan school, killing four students, was found guilty of manslaughter in the first case of its kind.
A jury found that , although Jennifer Crumbley was not involved in the attack, she is guilty of manslaughter for failing to warn teachers about the gun she knew her son Ethan had.
The jury decided she should have hidden the weapon in a safe place at home and received help for her 15-year-old girl's mental health problems.
Four convictions, one for each of the schoolchildren shot dead at Oxford High School near Detroit's 2021 class passed after 11 hours of deliberations.
Crumbley, 45, who maintained her innocence, lowered her eyes and shook her head slightly after the verdict was announced.
Oakland County Judge Cheryl Matthews thanked the jury and said, «We all know this was one of the hardest things you've ever done.»

As she left the courtroom, prosecutor Karen McDonald hugged Craig Schilling, the victim's father Justin Schilling and Madisyn Baldwin's family.
In December, Crumbley's son was sentenced to life in prison without parole after another court heard several hours testimonies of wounded survivors and parents who lost children. Ethan Crumbley, now 17, previously pleaded guilty to murder and terrorism charges.
Crumbley's father, James, is being tried separately and also faces a manslaughter charge. He is said to have bought the weapon — a 9mm SIG Sauer rifle — for his son. His trial is scheduled to begin in March.
The judge's gag order prevented Ms. McDonald and Shannon Smith, the lawyer, from speaking to reporters.

The court heard that on the morning of November 30, 2021, school staff were concerned about a violent drawing of a gun, a bullet and an injured person during Ethan's math assignment. His parents were called to the school to meet with school staff, but they did not take the boy home.
A few hours later, Ethan pulled a gun from his backpack and shot 10 students and a teacher. No one checked his bag.
The teenager was allegedly bought a gun by his father just four days ago. That same weekend, Crumbley took her son to the shooting range.
During Crumbley's cross-examination last week, Mark Keast, an assistant prosecutor, said, «You're the last adult to own that gun.» .
“You saw your son shoot in the last practice round before the [school] shooting on November 30th. You saw how he stood… He knew how to use a weapon.»
The teenager's mother replied: «Yes, he did.»
