China will be one of the first foreign markets for the luxury large SUV. As in its homeland, the model will be offered there as a four-seat rechargeable hybrid.
The Toyota Century executive sedan will remain exclusive to Japan for now, but the crossover of the same name will be exported. The premiere of the left-hand drive SUV took place in November last year at the Guangzhou Motor Show, and now the Chinese version has its own website. Let us remind you that in China the cross has been given the local name Shiji, where it will be sold through the Lexus dealer network — at least at the first stage. Subsequently, Shiji may well be turned into a separate luxury brand for the Chinese market.

Unlike the four-door, created on a rear-wheel drive “trolley”, the crossover is built on a “simple” TNGA-K platform, which also underlies the Toyota Grand Highlander and Lexus TX. The Toyota Century/Shiji has a spring suspension with McPherson struts at the front and a multi-link at the rear, while the chassis additionally has a steering mechanism for the rear wheels. SUV length is 5205 mm, width – 1990 mm, height – 1805 mm, wheelbase – 2950 mm.
As in Japan, in China the crossover will be available as an all-wheel drive rechargeable hybrid, the installation includes a “transverse” aspirated V6 3.5, two electric motors, an electromechanical variator and a battery with a capacity of 18.1 kWh. The total output of the Toyota Century is 412 hp
For the “celestial” model, the only configuration with a four-seater cabin has been announced so far. Between the rear seats there is a massive tunnel with a folding table, an optional refrigerator between the backrests and separate remote controls for controlling the main functions. The seats themselves have retractable footrests, heating, ventilation and a massager.

There is a glass section above the heads of VIP passengers. The list of standard equipment also includes multimedia tablets for rear passengers (attached to the front seats), a head-up display and many safety systems.
The price on the Shiji website is not yet indicated. After the presentation, local media wrote that the imported crossover would cost about 1,980,000 yuan (about 25 million rubles at the current exchange rate). The start of full sales in China is expected in the first half of the year. Probably, then the Toyota Century crossover will reach other countries.
