New Fiat Panda: first images

The Italian company is preparing a new generation of one of its most famous models, and thanks to patent images published last week, we have the opportunity to evaluate her appearance.

The Panda was first introduced in 1980 at the Geneva Motor Show. The car was created by the famous Italian designer Giorgetto Giugiaro and was a simple in design and inexpensive three-door hatchback. The first generation lasted on the assembly line for 23 years, after which in 2003 it was replaced by a completely new car, offered exclusively with five doors. Its life cycle turned out to be more standard for the auto industry (9 years), and in 2011 the third generation of the Panda was released, which is still produced to this day. Now Fiat is preparing the long-awaited successor to the popular hatchback in Europe (for example, the second generation sold more than 2 million copies), and we can already estimate what the new product will look like.

The car will retain the five-door body and the proportions familiar from the last two generations. At the same time, the design will become completely different: the body style is now angular and as simplified as possible. At the front, the Panda will receive trapezoidal-shaped headlights combined with an LED strip, a large contrasting insert in the bumper and rounded lighting elements (most likely foglights). The A-pillars are hidden, and the shape of the side glazing has become angular. Contrary to modern automotive fashion, door handles have remained classic with a “natural grip”. As for the rear, the brightest element here will be the original lights, made in the form of rounded squares and an LED strip “piercing” them.

The new Panda is built on the global Smart Car platform, which is a simplified version of the French CMP (Common Modular Platform) platform. Initially, the model was designed as an electric car, and its technical content will most likely be similar to the Stellantis hatchback Citroen e-C3: a single electric motor on the front axle with a power of 83 kW (113 hp) and a battery with a capacity of 44 kWh, full the charge of which is enough for 320 km of run on the CLTC cycle. And later Panda will have traditional versions with internal combustion engines.

The premiere of the new product is scheduled for July 11, which is when Fiat will celebrate its 125th anniversary the day of its foundation. Unlike its predecessor, the new Panda will become a global model, and its production, in addition to the Stellantis plant in the Series, will also be established in Africa and Latin America.
