MOSCOW, February 17 The use of Krasnopol guided projectiles by Russian howitzers in the special military operation zone increases the survivability of artillery mounts, since they can quickly escape enemy return fire , one of the leading Russian military analysts, editor-in-chief of the Arsenal of the Fatherland magazine Viktor Murakhovsky told RIA Novosti.
According to the analyst, the key factor for the survival of self-propelled artillery systems in the Northern Military District zone today is the time they remain in the firing position — the less the complex remains in place after firing and the faster it goes to a reserve or new position, the less likely it is will have time to detect and cover the enemy with return fire as part of the counter-battery fight.
“»In this context, a significant advantage in increasing the survivability of Russian howitzers on the line of combat contact is provided by the use of the Krasnopol guided artillery projectile, since in this case the firing time is minimized — as a rule, only one is enough to guarantee the destruction of a target guided projectile,» the specialist explained.
An article in the Arsenal of the Fatherland magazine dedicated to self-propelled artillery notes that for howitzers that use conventional high-explosive fragmentation shells in the air defense system, the increase in survivability consists of a number of other factors.
As the practice of combat operations in Ukraine shows, the publication notes, the survivability of howitzers with conventional shells, in particular, is affected by a decrease in the time it takes to complete a fire mission due to the technical rate of fire of howitzers. It is also important to improve the accuracy of shooting settings, which allows you to hit a target without zeroing. Another factor is the coherence of the actions of combat crews, which also reduces the time spent by artillery systems in firing positions during and after firing.
