The Renault SUV was recognized as the Car of the Year in Europe. The BYD electric sedan took the penultimate place in this competition, but at the same time it made it into the TOP-3 finalists of another prestigious award.
As part of the ongoing Geneva Motor Show, the winner of the European Car of the Year competition 2024 was announced. And the publication of the final three finalists of the World Car of the Year competition is timed to coincide with the opening of the same exhibition. Let us remind you that according to the rules of the “old world” award, the model participating in it must be new, that is, on sale during the calendar year, and be present in at least five European markets. And competing for the title of the best car in the world are models whose production volume is at least 10,000 units per year, plus they must be sold on at least two continents and at least two major markets (China, Europe, India, Japan, Korea, Latin America or USA). The World Car of the Year competition has several more categories, each with its own conditions. In any case, the best cars are chosen by auto journalists.
So, the jury recognized the electric crossover Renault Scenic as the European car of 2024: the model scored 329 points. By the way, this is already the seventh victory for Renault in the 61-year history of the competition. Second place this season went to the BMW 5 Series, with the “five” not much behind – 308 points. Third place goes to Peugeot 3008/e-3008 with 197 points. The seven finalists for the European Car of the Year competition also included the Kia EV9 (190 points), Volvo EX30 (168 points), BYD Seal (131 points) and Toyota C-HR (127 points).

Even though the BYD Seal electric sedan failed to become the best in the Old World, it can grab an equally prestigious award. The Chinese model made it to the TOP 3 finalists for the World Car of the Year award! Along with the four-door, two more electric cars are competing for this award, and they also participated in the European competition.

At the same time, three finalists in related categories were determined — City Car of the Year, Sports Car of the Year, Premium Car of the Year, Electric Car of the Year and Best Design. And in one of them there is also a “Chinese”, and from the same BYD company.

All winners of the 2024 World Car competition will be announced at the New York Auto Show, which opens at the end of March. The winner of last season was the Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric sedan; it was recognized not only as the World Auto 2023, but also as the best in the Electric Car of the Year and Design of the Year categories.
