NOVOSIBIRSK, February 26 The opening of the Sergei Godunov supercomputer, capable of simulating epidemiological, environmental and social processes, took place in the Novosibirsk Akademgorodok on Monday, the government of the Novosibirsk region reports.
The official opening ceremony of the supercomputer «Sergei Godunov» took place at the Institute of Mathematics named after S.L. Sobolev of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IM SB RAS). It received its name in memory of the world famous Soviet and Russian mathematician Sergei Konstantinovich Godunov. The overall cluster performance is currently 54.4 teraflops (trillion operations per second).

“The Sergei Godunov supercomputer is the main tool for conducting research and applied development at the Novosibirsk Scientific Center and creating a technological platform under the auspices of the Scientific Council of the Department of Mathematical Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences for mathematical modeling of epidemiological, environmental, economic and social processes,” the message states. According to the IM SB RAS, already this year, with the help of a grant aimed at updating the instrument base of leading organizations within the framework of the federal project «Infrastructure Development for Scientific Research and Personnel Training» of the national project «Science and Universities», the supercomputer is being modernized, as a result of which the peak The performance of the computing system will more than double and reach 120.4 teraflops.

“We now have the opportunity to solve multidisciplinary problems, model volumetric processes and predict the behavior of complex mathematical systems,” said the acting director. Director of the IM SB RAS Andrey Mironov.
He noted that the supercomputer carries out calculations on critically important problems and tasks in the field of artificial intelligence, including in the field of medical tomography, nature-like technologies, building scenarios for the development of the biosphere-economy-society system, climate change, problem solving geophysics and so on.
