MOSCOW, Feb. 28 Portuguese footballer Al-Nasra Cristiano Ronaldo said that the gesture he showed in the match of the 21st round of the Saudi Arabian championship against Al-Shabab (3:2) is not offensive, in Europe they have long been accustomed to this.
After the game, in which the Portuguese scored a goal from the penalty spot, he turned to the home fans and waved his hand several times in the groin area. According to Marca, this is how Ronaldo responded to the stands chanting the name of Argentine football player Lionel Messi. The Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) Disciplinary Committee has launched an investigation into the incident. A decision on the possible punishment of the Portuguese will be made within a few days.
““I respect all clubs. My gesture in the frame represents strength and victory, this is not shameful. In Europe we are used to this,” Ariyadhiah quotes Ronaldo’s statement.
This is not the first time a Portuguese has demonstrated indecent gestures in Saudi Arabia. In April 2023, he grabbed his groin after a game against Al-Hilal. In early February, after a match against the same club, Ronaldo, going into the stands, picked up one of the Al-Hilal scarves thrown to him, put it in his shorts and threw it away.
Ronaldo moved to Al-Nasr at the beginning of 2023. His agreement with the club runs until the summer of 2025. This season he has played 29 matches for Al-Nasr, scored 28 goals and provided 11 assists.
