The head coach of Spartak Moscow Guillermo Abascal left the position team on the day of the away match against St. Petersburg “Zenith” and went to Moscow. As the press service of the “red-whites” reported, the Spaniard will watch the team’s game at the club’s base.
This decision outraged many fans, because the captain must remain on the ship until the very end, and Abascal dispersed the red and white liner and went ashore right before it collided with Zenit. Spartak fans can write that the coach has lost motivation and does not want to work in Russia, that he is trying with all his might to speed up his dismissal, that they are ashamed of the Spaniard, and the like. But everything is not so simple.
Do not forget that in early December, the control and disciplinary committee of the Russian Football Union decided to disqualify Abaskal for three matches, one of which was suspended, for an incident in the game with Akhmat involving Grozny midfielder Bernard Berisha. The Spaniard then received a straight red card in the first half for pushing an opponent.
Abascal explained to the judge that the dissatisfaction was caused by Berisha's reaction to his team's goal — he jumped with both feet forward near the head coach of Spartak and ran to celebrate the goal to the stands next to the red-and-white bench. After that decision, Spartak played only one game in the RPL. In December, the Muscovites defeated Krylia Sovetov at home (3:0), and Abaskal was also not at the stadium — he followed the game against Samara from the club base and was in touch with his assistants.
It turns out that nothing new happened and Abaskal went along the beaten path. It’s just that any event around Spartak is doomed to be discussed. And against the backdrop of the situation with Quincy Promes not leaving the UAE due to problems with the law and the news of the postponement of the first home game of the year at Luzhniki due to the poor condition of the field, the news of Abascal’s departure could not help but become scandalous. And it doesn’t matter that, due to disqualification, Abascal could not be with the team before and after the match in the football section.
According to the logic of the fans, the coach is obliged to be close to the team. Especially before the game against Zenit! That is why his departure is perceived as a betrayal. And if Spartak, before the national team break, loses points in the home match of the 20th round of the RPL against Fakel, and also fails to beat Orenburg in the Russian Cup, the fans will be thirsty for blood. And the upcoming break looks like the perfect time for a coaching change. If the Spartak bosses, who are sensible and not prone to impulsive actions, decide to take it on, of course.
