    Greek prince and princess divorce after 14 years of marriage

    Prince Nikolaos Glucksburg, whose father Constantine II of Greece was a close friend of King Charles and the late Duke of Edinburgh, and Princess Tatiana is due to divorce after 14 years of marriage.

    The couple were last seen together publicly in February, when they attended a memorial in Windsor to mark the first anniversary of the death of Prince Nikolaos' father, Constantine II.

    The royal couple met during a ski holiday in Switzerland in 2003 and announced their relationship. engagement six years later.

    Their wedding on the Greek island of Spetses in the summer of 2010 was one of the social events of the year, and was attended by guests including royalty from Denmark, the Netherlands and Spain.

    Since their wedding, the couple have lived together in Athens . They have no children.

    Former members of the Greek royal family have maintained close ties to the British monarchy. That relationship was built around the late Prince Philip, who fled Greece as a child when the country first expelled its royals in the 1920s.

If Constantine had been a girl, then Prince Philip would never have been able to marry the queen and would instead have become King of the Hellenes after the death of King Paul in 1964.

    Constantine II lived in London during his exile and then returned home in 2013. His friendship with Prince Charles and other members of the British royal family was his main link to the role he lost.

    Prince Philip was a constant companion on the voyage. Prince William became Constantine's godfather. It was at Constantine's 60th birthday party at Highgrove that Prince Charles finally introduced Camilla Parker-Bowles to his mother.

    Tatiana has devoted much of her time to charitable causes, and Nikolaos is known to have a passion for photography.

    Rumors

    The couple was believed to be happily married for most of their union, but in recent months there have been rumors of estrangement between the couple, according to Greek media.

    Nikolaos was born in 1969 in Rome after his father fled Greece during the military dictatorship in his home country.

    Nikolaos grew up in Denmark, spent two years at an English public school and served in the Royal Navy.

    Tatiana, the daughter of a German aristocrat, was born in Venezuela and raised in Switzerland.

    She experienced tragedy as a child when her father committed suicide when she was seven years old.
