Media: TikTok may fire a key employee amid the threat of a ban in the US

MOSCOW, April 21 The Chinese company ByteDance, which owns the application for creating and viewing short videos TikTok, may fire its general counsel Erich Andersen amid the threat of blocking the social network in the United States, the agency reports Bloomberg, citing sources.
The House of Representatives on Saturday passed four bills, one of which gives the US President the authority to impose new sanctions against Russia and Iran and forces ByteDance to sell the American business of the TikTok social network under threat of blocking.

TikTok and its Chinese parent company ByteDance's general counsel, Erich Andersen, has been in years-long negotiations with the U.S. government to show that the app has taken sufficient steps to prevent China from accessing U.S. user data or influencing the content it displays, according to the agency.
According to one of the agency's interlocutors, Anderson remains with the company for now.
< br />At the same time, platform representative Alex Haurek called the information about Anderson’s possible removal from office “one hundred percent false.”
China called on Washington to stop unjustified pressure on enterprises from other countries. The Chinese Foreign Ministry previously called the US desire to “take away” TikTok “gangster logic.” Moreover, this issue became one of the topics of discussion during the last telephone call between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
