The athlete was depressed due to her health
The probable causes of suicide of a 21-year-old volleyball player of the youth team, who committed suicide on the evening of April 21 in the south-east of Moscow, have become known. The girl had health problems, in addition, shortly before the tragedy she broke up with her boyfriend.
As MK previously wrote, volleyball player Arina Mikhailina was found under the windows of the Moscow Power Engineering Institute dormitory on 1st Sinichkina Street at about 21:00. The nature of the injuries suggested that she had attempted suicide. Doctors were unable to save her. According to friends, in the last few months the deceased had problems with her knee. Last fall, she twisted her ankle and couldn’t play because of it. The athlete underwent surgery and had a long recovery. In March, when she was supposed to return to sports, doctors discovered another serious illness. It was assumed that the volleyball player would be out of play until mid-summer. Recently, she was depressed due to her health condition and even previously tried to take her own life, but then she was stopped.
According to friends, the deceased had been dating a 25-year-old man for several months. The couple lived together for some time, but separated. On April 21, the athlete moved to the institute’s dormitory. An hour before the tragedy, she communicated with her ex-boyfriend on social networks. When the young man received messages in which she said goodbye to him, he became worried, called an ambulance and came to the hostel himself. The doctors checked the patient's condition, no medical attention was needed, and they left. A few minutes later, a janitor found the athlete under the windows of the building. The security guard called 112. The same doctors responded to the call – the ambulance did not have time to go far. The wounded woman was still alive for some time, but later died. It is noteworthy that the volleyball player’s suicide occurred the day before her mother’s birthday – April 22. According to friends, the deceased had an excellent relationship with her parent. The family still has a younger sister who also plays volleyball and plans to connect her life with this sport.
Arina Mikhailina played for the Zarechye-Odintsovo team and was a candidate for master of sports and the winner of the Russian Championship 2018 in his age category. She received several awards at student tournaments and played for the Russian youth team.
