The “Kagan’s Gold” rally took place in the Astrakhan region. In four days, the athletes covered more than a thousand kilometers of dug-up steppe roads and sands. The load on the vehicle and crew is enormous. Only about half of the participants successfully completed the race.
The GAZ Raid Sport factory team entered in full force, sending two Gazelle NN sports cars and two Sadko NEXT trucks to the race.
In addition to the traditional crews fighting for places in the Russian Championship, the GAZ Raid Sport team also brought two Sobol 4×4 production cars to participate in the Trek Race racing series. These cars were piloted by the managing director of the Gorky Automobile Plant Andrei Sofonov and the head of the press service Nikolai Markov.

We plan to take part in the T2 classification in the Russian Championship on a new promising machine Sobol NN 4×4, and now we are, so to speak, having training trips,” said Nikolai Markov. – We are participating in the “Kagan’s Gold” race with the goal of “getting into” rally raids before future starts, understanding the “kitchen”, working with navigators, so as not to be extras in more serious competition groups. Therefore, we are now racing the well-known serial Sobol 4×4 in the third category rally. At the same time, we are training the new young navigator of the team, Alexander Kapustin, in combat — today’s race is his debut. At the same time, we will be preparing new cars for the next season. Andrey Sofonov was able to fly to Astrakhan for only two days in between work trips, so he did not have the opportunity to take part in all four stages of the race this time. And our crew successfully completed the entire difficult race and won third place in the Trek Race category.
The Astrakhan race is considered the most difficult in the Russian championship, and 2024 was no exception. Accidents and technical difficulties knocked out the participants: only half of them reached the finish line of the last stage of the competition. The rest dropped out of the race. The leading crew in the Raid-Sport class, the crew of Alexander Semenov and Dmitry Okhotnikov on the Gazelle NN, dropped out: the engine failed in the sand and they had to arrange a retirement.

However, the current champions of Russia Alexey Ignatov and Evgeny Pavlov in the second Gazelle NN, having accomplished a real sporting feat, on the last day of the race they immediately broke through two positions up and seized the lead in their qualifying group. Our crew is the winner of the rally raid “Gold of Kagan 2024”!

3/3 >It was tough in the cargo category struggle. The Dakar champions fought there. Our trucks are assembled from standard components and assemblies and are significantly inferior to the prototypes in terms of power consumption, but they confidently overtake a number of participants on the highway in faster passenger SUVs. Another strong point of our trucks is reliability and maintainability. Thanks to this, both crews on Sadko NEXT successfully finished, taking sixth and seventh places and ahead of two cargo prototypes.
