PARIS, Apr 27Leonardo da Vinci's famous painting “Mona Lisa”, also known as “La Gioconda”, may be exhibited in a separate room at the Louvre due to its popularity, according to museum director Laurence de Car.
“It's always a shame when the reception conditions (for visitors – ed.) are not up to par, and this applies to La Gioconda, so together with the Ministry of Culture we are thinking about this improvement, which seems necessary to me today,” she commented in broadcast on the France Inter radio station, the opportunity to exhibit the painting in a separate room.
According to her, now the conditions in the museum for those wishing to see the painting are not optimal. De Car added that in 2023, more than 80% of all visitors to the Louvre, approximately 20 thousand people daily, came to look at this painting.
