MOSCOW, May 1. The concert “Masterpieces of Russian and Foreign Music” was held in Cotonou, Benin, becoming the first performance with the participation of Russian performers in this country during the post-Soviet era, the Russian embassy reported.
“On April thirtieth, at the Chinese Cultural Center of the city of Cotonou, as part of the “Rising Stars” project of the Moscow State Conservatory named after P.I. Tchaikovsky, a classical music concert “Masterpieces of Russian and Foreign Music” took place,” the embassy said, noting that Russian Ambassador Igor Evdokimov thanked Conservatory and the Russkiy Mir Foundation for the initiative to hold a concert in Benin with the participation of Russian performers for the first time in the post-Soviet era
The Russian diplomatic mission clarified that thanks to Russian performers, works by Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Rimsky-Korsakov, Saint-Saëns and other composers were performed. Among the guests were representatives of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts of Benin, headed by the director of the minister’s cabinet (with the rank of deputy minister) Eric Tota, heads of the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and local diplomatic missions, Benin public figures, representatives of the media and business circles, and Russians.

» Eric Tota, in turn, emphasized the special significance of holding a concert with the participation of leading teachers of the world-famous Moscow Conservatory for cultural life of Benin and emphasized Cotonou’s interest in further intensifying Russian-Benin relations in the field of culture,” the Russian Embassy emphasized.
After the concert, guests were offered traditional Russian cuisine, the embassy added.
