Ronnie O'Sullivan was praised for his sportsmanship during his quarter-final defeat to Stuart Bingham at the World Snooker Championship.
The commentator went even further It's a long shot to call it «the greatest sportsmanship of all time.» Was this hyperbole or justified?

1. Jack Nicklaus, 1969 Ryder Cup
After three days of action at Royal Birkdale in Southport, the Ryder Cup came down to the 18th green between Jack Nicklaus and Tony Jacklin. Nicklaus holed his par putt to ensure the United States retained the trophy, leaving Jacklin with a bogey three-foot putt to cut the score in half. To everyone's surprise, Nicklaus simply picked up Jacklin's ball and missed the shot. “I don’t think you would have missed it, but I wasn’t going to give you that chance,” he told Jacklin.
2. Alistair and Jonny Brownlee, World Triathlon Series Final, 2016
The display of brotherly love mixed with sportsmanship remains an incredible example for the watching world. Johnny, the younger brother, was clean and well on his way to the world title when, less than a kilometer into the process, his legs gave out and he began to veer alarmingly toward the spectator barriers. Henri Schuman passed by, but rather than fight for victory with the South African, Alistair stopped to help his little brother and they crossed the finish line hand in hand in a moment that will probably be remembered even more than his two Olympic gold medals .

Di Canio has earned huge praise for his decision to catch the ball rather than try to score into an empty West Ham United net after Everton goalkeeper Paul Gerrard went down with a serious injury. Both sets of fans applauded Di Canio's sportsmanship, but it later emerged that the Italian's teammates had decidedly mixed feelings. “The guy from Sky [Sports] said to me, 'What a great day for football,'” recalled Harry Redknapp, then West Ham manager. “I'm going. “Oh yes, yes, of course, great” — but we really want to kill him.
4. Jonas Vingegaard Tour de France 2022
Cycling has a long list of unspoken rules and codes of honor, but these are not always followed and there are many gray areas, not least because of what can be human error in the event of an accident. This was clearly put to the test during the 2022 Tour de France, when the top two riders, Vingegaard and Tadej Pogačar, tackled a dangerous mountain descent. Pogacar constantly attacked in an attempt to regain the lead of the race and fell, but instead of trying to take advantage of the situation and break into a potentially unassailable lead, Vingegaard waited. The two competitors shook hands before the battle resumed.
5. Ronnie O'Sullivan, The Crucible 2024
Snooker has a long history of acting in good faith, such as when Jimmy White was the only man to notice that he had hit the cue ball during the 1993 final against Stephen Hendry, but was immediately fouled.
However, what made the incident involving O'Sullivan so unusual was that he was entitled to benefit after pointing out that the black had been spotted incorrectly and was covering the next red. However, O'Sullivan apparently did not want to feel any doubt about what he was doing and instead refused to pot a red that would have opened up the chance to take a decisive two-frame lead.
