MOSCOW, May 2. State Duma Deputy Anton Gorelkin in his Telegram channel proposed banning public mention of prohibited in the Russian Federation of social networks, including calls to subscribe to such social networks.
“»It is necessary to introduce a ban on advertising on prohibited social networks. Moreover, I believe that their advertising should also be prohibited, and in particular any public mention of the names of these platforms and calls to subscribe,» he wrote.
According to him, many show business stars are now abusing the fact that they offer to subscribe to social networks banned in the Russian Federation, “not understanding the risks this carries for their audience.”
Earlier, following a lawsuit from the Prosecutor General's Office, the Tverskoy Court of Moscow banned Instagram* and Facebook* in Russia for extremist activities; the decision does not imply penalties for users for bypassing blocking.
* The activities of Meta (social networks Facebook and Instagram) are prohibited in Russia as extremist.
