In addition to the junior GLE crossover, renders of which we published recently, another model will receive a second update — the flagship GLS. What will it be like?
Mercedes-Benz's largest crossover was first introduced in 2006 and was originally named GL. It was conceived as a replacement for the Gelendvagen, but in accordance with the opinion of the brand’s customers, it was decided to keep both cars in the range. The flagship SUV received the name GLS in 2015 along with the restyling of the second generation. Today, the third generation of the model is on the assembly line, which premiered in the spring of 2019. Last year, the crossover was updated, and recently spy photographers again spotted camouflaged samples of the GLS, which indicates a second restyling in preparation, similar to the GLE model.

The available photographs show that the flagship crossover will receive a new front end with headlights of a different shape. Most likely, the radiator grille will be designed in the style of some of the company’s new models (in particular, the latest generation E-Class) and will receive a wide contrast edging that visually merges with the front optics blocks. The sides and rear are not yet hidden and are no different from the current model, but we can assume that, at a minimum, the GLS will receive an updated rear bumper and new lights — we have depicted a version made in the style of the company's electric new products.

Mercedes-Benz GLS is built on the new modular platform MHA (Modular High Architecture), which is also used junior GLE and GLE Coupe. The car is equipped with a wide range of gasoline and diesel engines, and it is not yet known what changes will be made in this regard. There is a possibility that the model will lose its petrol V8 on civilian versions, as previously happened with the updated G-Class.

The premiere of the new product is expected closer to 2026.
Meanwhile, last month we found out whether it is worth buying the most compact first-generation GLA crossover with mileage.
