WASHINGTON, May 3. The United States and the Russian Federation should cooperate on space issues to the extent possible, said Assistant to the Head of the State Department Mallory Stewart.
“It's important to continue to collaborate as much as possible,” Stewart said at a Center for International Strategic Studies event.
< br />The event related to the information previously announced by the States that the Russian Federation could allegedly deploy weapons in space.
US media, citing sources in the American administration, previously reported that Washington privately warned Moscow about the inadmissibility of placing nuclear weapons in space, plans for which the Russian Federation allegedly harbors.
The White House previously confirmed that the threat to national security, which was discussed in the American Congress, concerns anti-satellite weapons allegedly being developed by the Russian Federation. US President Joe Biden demanded diplomatic contacts with the Russian Federation, White House spokesman John Kirby said earlier.
Multiple sources said one of the communications involved Biden's national security adviser Jake Sullivan and Yuri Ushakov, a foreign policy adviser to Russian President Vladimir Putin. CIA Director William Burns approached Sergei Naryshkin, head of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), the source said.
The Russian Foreign Ministry called contacts with the United States on this topic unproductive.
