MOSCOW, May 7. Andrey Kozyrev from Severstal, Igor Nikitin from Lokomotiv and Andrei Razin from Metallurg have been nominated for the prize for the best coach of the season in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), according to the organization’s website.
Kozyrev helped the Cherepovets win 35 out of 70 matches; in the first full season under his leadership, the club reached the playoffs, where they lost to Spartak Moscow in the first round.
Lokomotiv, under the leadership of Nikitin, reached the final of the Gagarin Cup for the first time in 15 years, where they lost to Metallurg. The team won 57 wins in 88 games. Nikitin was recognized as the best coach in the 2018/19 season.
Razin led the Magnitogorsk club to its third championship title. He has 60 wins in 91 matches.
The KHL closing ceremony will take place on May 13. The record holder for the number of awards for the best coach is Oleg Znarok (4).
