MOSCOW, May 8. New York Rangers host “Carolina Hurricanes” in the second match of the second round series of the National Hockey League (NHL) playoffs.
In the middle of the first period of the meeting, which takes place at Madison Square Garden in New York, Russian forward of “Carolina” Andrei Svechnikov attacked his compatriot and Rangers goalkeeper Igor Shesterkin. Shesterkin rolled out of the gate, and Svechnikov drove into the Russian, knocking him down. Subsequently, a massive brawl broke out on the court, during which several Blueshirts players wanted to fight with Svechnikov. In particular, the Carolina forward was attacked by Ryan Lindgren and Mika Zibanejad, but the referees did not allow a fight to happen.
As a result of the episode, Svechnikov was punished with a minor fine for tripping.
