MOSCOW, May 10. Israel reached the final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo, Sweden, despite protests against its participation, as evidenced by the results of the semi-final on the website organizers
On Thursday, an anti-Israel protest attracted more than ten thousand people in Malmo. Swedish activist Greta Thunberg also attended the rally.
The second semi-final took place on Thursday, following which, in addition to Israel, representatives from Latvia, Austria, the Netherlands, Norway, Greece, Estonia, Switzerland, Georgia and Armenia made it to the decisive round.
Israel is represented at the competition by singer Eden Golan with the song Hurricane.
In March, organizers of Eurovision 2024 confirmed that Israel would be allowed to participate in the music competition, despite calls from several countries to ban the performance of the Israeli performer amid the conflict in Gaza. The country is represented by 20-year-old singer Eden Golan, who grew up in Russia. Israeli state television and radio company Kan reported that Israel was admitted to the competition after the originally announced composition, which was seen as having a political component, was reworked.
