A rider escaped serious injury at the North West 200 motorcycle race in a horrific crash that left him thrown «about 25 feet» into the air and onto the hood of a car.
Paul Cassidy crashed into a barrier after colliding with another competitor at one of Northern Ireland's biggest annual sporting events, held on the nine-mile street circuit known as the Triangle, between the towns of Portstewart, Coleraine and Portrush.
The track is known for being one of the fastest in the world, with bikes regularly reaching speeds of over 200 mph.
Cassidy posted a time-lapse of the accident along with photos on his personal Facebook page cuts and bruises on his left leg, as well as a huge dent he left on the Volkswagen.
He also wrote: “As you all know, I got a little lost on the 200. I'm fine, just sore as hell.
“I was riding behind a rider and I just hit 4th, I think his bike broke or something. 1st right after the start… The marshals said the same thing. He pulled to the left, then looked over his left shoulder, not knowing that I was passing him, and we collided together.
“Unfortunately, I couldn’t do anything at that speed. Thank you so much to everyone for your support… all the medical staff did an amazing job.

In a statement, the race organizers said: “Information from the NW200 medical team indicates that none of the competitors suffered serious injuries, but two were taken to Causeway Hospital for assessment and treatment < /p>
