MOSCOW, May 14.Russia will use the International Space Station until 2028, but an extension of operation is also possible, such a decision will be made based on expediency, said Roscosmos executive director Sergei Krikalev.
“”Everything is possible. Each time a decision will be made based on expediency… Now, for now, our station has been extended until 2028, our partners have already extended it until 2030, and we will look at the circumstances,” Krikalev said.
Initially, the ISS, whose construction in orbit began in 1998, was planned to operate for 15 years. Later, this period was extended until 2020, and then until 2024. Russia has extended the operation of its segment until 2028, all other countries participating in the project – until 2030. The new Russian orbital station, the launch of the first module of which is planned for 2027, is being developed so that its service life is 50 years.
