What Starmer's six new promises mean

When he became leader of the Labor Party and took over from Jeremy Corbyn's Sir Keir Starmer initially made 10 promises. Then last year five missions appeared. The Labor Party now has six key policies, which are depicted on a Tony-Blair-style commitment card.

“One card, six steps in your hands – a plan to change the country. This is a message we can take to every doorstep across the country,” Sir Keir told a rally in Essex.

So what are Labour’s recently revealed six policy priorities? And how do they differ from previous promises?

    1. Ensure economic stability

Sir Keir and Rachel Reeves, the shadow chancellor, were keen to establish Labor as the party of sound money in the eyes of voters.

Their slogan has become “economic stability” and it has now become the first of Labour's six promises.

The promise to “restore economic stability” was last year part of Labour's wider mission to “make Britain build again”.

But the emphasis appears to have changed: the new pledge card makes no specific mention of building houses, although the party's website says the pledge remains “part of Labour's mission to win Britain”. we are building again.”

Labor added that it plans to “ensure economic stability through tough spending rules so we can grow our economy and keep taxes, inflation and mortgages as low as possible.”

Sir Keir has kept anti-social behavior and making neighborhoods safer as a priority if Labor gets into government.

He's back announced his pledge to provide 13,000 new district police officers, highlighting his past experience as director of public prosecutions.

“When I was chief prosecutor and when I was a politician, people told me, Keir, 'This is low-level anti-social behavior, it's not that important.' Completely false.

“If you feel like you can't open your door, your front door, and go outside at night, if you can't walk down your main street, feel comfortable and safe in your own community – This is huge.” /p> Sir Keir Starmer meets Year 6 students at the Independent Jewish Day School in Hendon, north-west London, on September 8, 2023. The number of new teachers the Labor Party said it would recruit has remained the same since the publication of five mission statements last year.

So has the method , with which Labor plans to pay for them – by including VAT in the cost of private schools.

The pledge was previously part of the party's broader mission to “break down barriers to opportunity.” along with promises to employ mental health support staff in every school and to set up free breakfast clubs in all primary schools in England.

These promises were not confirmed as part of the six commitments.
