According to the head of GM, plug-in hybrids will appear on the American market in 2027. It is expected, in particular, that such versions will appear in the “twins” Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra.
The global automobile market has recorded a slowdown in the adoption of electric vehicles. The demand for them was not as high as manufacturers expected, so many of them decided to reconsider their development strategies. The American concern General Motors set a course for “greening” several years ago; some of its recent new products were fully electric versions of the Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV.

However, now the company intends to make changes to the electrification strategy of the model range. GM CEO Mary Barra told the Detroit News about the change in course. According to her, plug-in hybrids will be offered in the United States in the future — their manufacturer considers them a necessary step in the development of infrastructure for rechargeable cars. At the same time, in the long term, electric cars will still prevail, the company believes.

As Mary Barra noted, “Plug-in hybrids are an important part of meeting regulatory requirements and giving consumers more options.” . It is reported that cars with the corresponding filling produced by General Motors will appear on the American market in 2027.
There is no official information yet about which models of GM brands will receive electrified “filling”. At the same time, the manufacturer previously noted that it was going to introduce plug-in hybrid versions of the twin pickups Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra (the same models for which completely “green” versions were recently developed).

Details about the technology of these trucks have not yet been announced. As Kolesa.ru reported earlier, the concern expects that plug-in hybrids will become a logical “layer” between the Silverado and Sierra with internal combustion engines and their fully electric versions. In addition, it is expected that PHEV versions will be able to solve the range problem that continues to arise among buyers of “green” pickup trucks, especially those used as workhorses for frequent towing and hauling.

It is worth noting that GM does not have plug-in hybrids in its current lineup in the home market. At the same time, they are available in China: for example, at the beginning of this month, the Buick line was replenished with the GL8 PHEV minivan. Its installation is based on a gasoline 1.5-liter turbo engine, its output is 180 hp, it works in tandem with a 218-horsepower electric motor and a battery with a capacity of 24.4 kWh. The total output of the system is 397 hp. (torque – 580 Nm). When driving only on electric power, the range of the minivan is 138 km (according to the CLTC cycle).
The Chevrolet Equinox Plus has become another rechargeable GM hybrid on the Chinese market. It is known that the basis of its PHEV installation is a 1.5-liter turbo engine, coupled with an electric motor and a lithium iron phosphate battery with a capacity of 16.5 kWh. The total output of the crossover system is 272 hp. (565 Nm). This SUV takes 6.8 seconds to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h, with a top speed of 180 km/h. The range when driving on electric power alone is 102 km (CLTC cycle).
