The Evolute i-Joy crossover will receive a Russian-made traction battery

The development of the battery for the electric train was carried out by the Autonomous Energy Systems company. Now Evolute has already begun testing a battery “with local registration.”

The Russian brand Evolute was created by the Motorinvest company in 2022, initially they began producing electric vehicles at a plant in the Lipetsk region, but later a hybrid was added to the line crossover. The brand's first SUV was the Evolute i-Joy, which entered the Russian market in November 2022.

The “donor” for Evolute i-Joy was the “Chinese” Fengon E3 EV, its other name is Seres 3. Let us remind you that Fengon is a brand of a joint venture between Dongfeng and Sokon, and the Seres brand belongs to Sokon. The overall length of the SUV is 4385 mm, width – 1850 mm, height – 1650 mm, and the distance between its axles is 2655 mm. Passport ground clearance – 180 mm, trunk volume – 535 liters (1225 liters with seats folded).

The Evolute i-Joy has McPherson struts at the front and semi-independent suspension at the rear; Front-wheel drive only. This SUV is equipped with an electric motor with a power of 163 hp and a maximum torque of 195 Nm. Acceleration from zero to “hundred” takes 8.9 seconds, and its top speed is 155 km/h.

Initially, the model had a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 53 kWh installed under the interior floor. When calculated using the outdated NEDC cycle, the range on a single charge for such a crossover is 407 km. However, in the future it is planned to equip the model with another traction battery – a Russian one.

As the press service of Evolute said, the development of the battery for the electric crossover was carried out by the Autonomous Energy Systems (SAE) company, part of the Itelma group of companies. It has its own production, which is located in Moscow and St. Petersburg. It is noted that the company has experience in producing traction inverters and chargers for electric vehicles, electric buses, autonomous trolleybuses and other electric vehicles.

The battery capacity for Evolute i-Joy from SAE exceeds 60 kWh. As a result, the range without recharging should increase by 20% and amount to 480 km (when calculated using the WLTP cycle). The company noted that the nominal voltage of the new traction battery is estimated at more than 350 V. When creating the battery, the developers took into account the road and climatic conditions of the country. It is known that Evolute has now already begun testing a battery “with local registration.”

It is reported that that subsequently other Evolute electric vehicles will be equipped with Russian-made traction batteries. The current model range, in addition to the i-Joy SUV, includes the i-Pro electric sedan, the “green” i-Sky and i-Jet crossovers, the i-Van minivan, as well as a seven-seat SUV with a hybrid installation – i-Space.
