It became known what kind of ammunition was used to fold the Kharkov TV tower in half

Russia has created a new guided bomb

Russian Aerospace Forces at the end of last month carried out an effective and spectacular operation to destroy television and communication towers in the Sumy, Chernigov and Kharkov regions. The Ukrainian Armed Forces actively used these facilities to locate electronic reconnaissance and electronic warfare stations. A video has leaked online showing how a TV tower in Kharkov is folded in half as a result of a precise hit. Now it has become known what kind of ammunition was used.

TV towers in Ukraine have long become dual-use objects. In addition to the fact that they are used to broadcast military propaganda, the Ukrainian Armed Forces install on them reconnaissance equipment to monitor the air situation, as well as communications equipment to guide their own drones attacking Russian targets. That is why there is a need to destroy television towers. By the way, during the NATO operation against Serbia in 1999, the alliance’s aircraft first destroyed the television center in Belgrade.

It is significant that they “blinded” The Ukrainian Armed Forces in the eastern regions just before our offensive in the Kharkov direction, which began on May 10.

After video of the attack on a TV tower in Kharkov emerged on April 22, many experts speculated that the Russian Air Force used Kh-59 air-launched guided missiles. However, this is not so, says military expert Colonel in reserve Eduard Basurin. According to him, the tower was folded in half by the UMPB D-30SN universal interspecific glide precision munition.

The word “interspecies” in the name of the ammunition means that it can be used not only by aviation, but also by rocket artillery, for example, “Smerch” systems and “Tornado-S”. What kind of “station wagon” is this?

The D-30SN was created on the basis of the 250-kilogram high-explosive bomb FAB-250. It was equipped with wings and a control module. The ammunition can fly to the target at predetermined coordinates, or can be aimed at the target by the pilot of the carrier aircraft.

The D-30SN has an American analogue — guided bomb  GBU-39 SDB. But it has a larger caliber — 300 mm. In addition  Equipped with a launch accelerator, the D-30SN ammunition can be launched from the ground using multiple launch rocket systems. When dropped from an aircraft, the range  D-30SN  reaches 120 km.

If you launch the D-30SN with Smerch systems or “Tornado-S” then there the range can be increased to 300-330 km.

As Basurin noted, the targets of the UMPB D-30SN are warehouses with weapons and ammunition, fortifications and other objects of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, for the destruction of which it is irrational to use super-expensive missiles « Iskander” or “Onyx”.

It is also important that the D-30SN has a small effective reflective surface and enemy air defense cannot detect such a target, much less shoot it down.

According to data expert, the new ammunition began to be used in the Northern Military District zone in March of this year. “Mass production of the UMPB D-30SN is being established, which should be of great benefit to our Armed Forces in achieving goals and objectives in the Northern Military District, saving the lives of our valiant fighters,” the expert concluded.
