CHISINAU , May 27.President of Moldova Maia Sandu signed a decree granting citizenship to some musicians of the rock group «Bi-2», said the head of the administration of the head of the republic Adrian Balutel in the Telegram channel.
“
" President Maia Sandu signed a decree granting Moldovan citizenship to several members of the Bi-2 group. and their families. Our country is open and hospitable to people who choose peace and promote friendship and respect between peoples,” the publication says.
Balucel added that Moldova is ready to defend the dignity and freedom of speech of other people.
The fact that several Bi-2 participants submitted a request for Moldovan citizenship became known on April 23. This happened after the musicians were arrested in Thailand for holding a concert without permission from the authorities. The artists were fined and expelled from the country.
Contrary to usual practice, all members of the group, including Russian citizens who did not have a second citizenship, were deported to Israel, whose passports were held by four of the seven detainees. This happened against the backdrop of a wave of publications by Western media and human rights activists, which claimed that all the musicians were going to be sent to Russia, where they would allegedly face persecution for their political views.
