The Chang'e 6 landing was the fourth successful lunar landing out of four attempts, and the second on the far side of the Moon.

It is also the third lunar landing in 2024. Following the Japanese SLIM spacecraft in January and the IM-1 Odysseus lunar vehicle from Intuitive Machines in February, journalists note.

As previously reported, the main part of the mission on the lunar surface will last 48 hours, after which the extracted soil will be delivered into lunar orbit. The mission should return to Earth around June 25.
