ST. PETERSBURG, June 2 People were killed and injured in a fire at the oil refinery in Ukhta, the regional investigative department reported on its Telegram channel.
«According to the investigation, today at an oil refinery facility in the city of Ukhta, a fire occurred during scheduled technical work by a contractor, resulting in deaths and injuries,» the publication says.
Investigators opened a criminal case under the article “Violation of industrial safety requirements for hazardous production facilities, resulting through negligence in the death of two or more persons.» It could result in up to seven years in prison.
The number of deaths is not specified.
As reported by the head of Komi, Vladimir Uiba, a fuel oil tank caught fire at an oil refinery four kilometers from Ukhta. The cause of the fire, according to preliminary information, was non-compliance with safety rules. Uiba stressed that the incident was not related to a drone attack.
The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations in Komi reported that three employees were injured.
